WaterKit extends its proven zero-interest financing and solar-powered water access model to deliver safe, reliable water filtration systems for rural Ugandan schools and health facilities. This service addresses the critical gap between untreated water sources and the high standards required for vulnerable populations—patients, students, and medical staff.
How the Service Works
1. Needs Assessment & System Design
WaterKit conducts a site-specific evaluation of each institution, testing source water quality (bacteria, turbidity, heavy metals) and calculating daily consumption. Based on findings, we deploy:
For Hospitals: Solar-powered ultrafiltration (UF) or reverse osmosis (RO) systems capable of removing viruses, bacteria, and chemical contaminants—essential for surgical units, maternity wards, and immunisation clinics.
For Schools:Â Gravity-fed membrane filters or solar-disinfection (SODIS) units that operate without electricity, placed at drinking stations, kitchens, and handwashing points.
2. Financing via WaterKit Wallet
Eligible institutions access the service through WaterKit’s digital neo-banking platform:
Zero-interest credit for equipment and installation, repayable over 12–24 months via mobile money.
No upfront capital required—fees are structured to match an institution’s operating budget, with discounts for facilities serving refugees or marginalised communities.
3. Installation & Integration
WaterKit’s local technicians install systems at key points:
Hospitals:Â Point-of-use filters in wards, operating theatres, and outpatient departments; plus a centralised storage tank with solar-powered transfer from boreholes.
Schools:Â High-capacity filter stations in dining halls, plus dedicated taps for safe drinking water during class hours.
4. Training & Long-Term Support
Sustainability is built into every installation:
Train-the-Trainer sessions for nurses, teachers, and cooks on filter cleaning, chlorine dosing (if used), and troubleshooting.
Automated sensor alerts (where connectivity exists) notify WaterKit when filters require replacement or maintenance.
Replacement part supply chain established through local hardware partners.
